I am kinda on a path of self-discovery at the moment. I have been doing some travelling, you know - seeing places. And I have been working on my art. I don't really have a job or a purpose and it kinda sucks. Has anyone else been in this place? And what did you do to get out of it? I would love to work with animals, and with my art, and travelling...Does anyone have any ideas?

You can find yourself by observing the effect you have upon others. This certainly is not the only way to find out about yourself, but it is a way to fine-tune the way you are living. If you want to make any appreciable headway, however, you must become inner-directed and focus on your authentic self. That is the real you with all the outside stuff ignored. Your interests, your failures, your disappointments, your dreams and hopes with others and for yourself, and so on. Because you are already well on your way, you will find a lot of this stuff before I can write it down here for you. I observe what I do and then whether or not it is working for me. The idea is to feed the stuff that works and starve the stuff that doesn't. Here in the United States, at animal shelters, they are screaming for someone to come in and clean cages and help open cans of cat food and put food in 32 little dishes for all the cats (for example in one shelter alone), and take the soiled towels and sheeting to the washing machines out back and run them through with soap and bleach and then help with mailing out circulars for fund raising, and such. I fully realize there is no money in volunteering at an animal shelter, but I used to deliver blankets and things to one here locally and every week I would see the same volunteers and they all had big smiles on their faces, so something was definitely right there, and it was working very well for them. You can ponder life's great mysteries while feeding the animals. The importance of staying busy while you wax philosophic cannot be overemphasized, Some would say "God, that's just too much like work!" But you have never been afraid to work hard, have you? The trick to not getting stuck is to keep checking to see where it's all headed, with you along for the ride or at the steering wheel, is the final observation. Adapt. If something is not making the stars twinkle for you, then by all means stir something else into the mix. Lethargy of Spirit and abandonment to the familiar can paralyze just about anyone. Be more electric in your expectation of yourself and of your life! Animals all need to be walked, you know, every day. There is a fleet of volunteers that comes in just to snap some anonymous dog on the end of a piece of string and march it around the grounds. You might wonder why on earth anyone would ever want to take the time to do that, but the animals will thank you. Watch the tails on the dogs when they come back to their cages and you will notice how grateful they are, while they are all waiting to find good, new and loving homes with someone new, and they are telling you with that wagging tail! Well, I hope this helps you a little to gain some fresh perspective and to pursue something that might not bear money rewards right at first, but might soon lead to being hired or to another kind of job that would pay well. Four of the girls at the front desk at the shelter all told me they had begun just by volunteering to help out back. Sent with good energies to you from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old. A lot of the volunteers are older than I am.)

Few years ago I had enough of how my life was going and I went travelling to clear my head about what I was doing with my life.
Travelling gave me the opportunity to see with more calm , what is that I wanted and what I didn't want.
I think the easiest part is to know what don't you want ,get a diary and write all the things that are going through your head , you see when we are relaxed our intuition and true self can communicate more freely with us. Write also all the things you like , and try to think ,if I could do anything right know , what I would like to do?
I will also recommend you a book called Cosmic ordering service by Barbel Morh it is great and simple it will help you to start things moving , is already changing my life...

Good luck

Same situation over here girl. The best wayis relax in serene quietness. The environment around you should be peaceful and beautiful in nature.
Then question such things you always want to be. You will get the answrs from your heart and then work your mind on it.
Never ask questions to other person about the things that you want to be. Because it is you who has to travel the path of your happiness and self expression.
You r unique as a person. Usually in such situations always do things that make you happy. Be around people who make you happy because happiness is a journey of life not a destination!

well, did you enjoy your travelling/art in the past ? If you did , then why hopelessness and guilt ? It happens to you because you are trying to compare yourself with others. And this is the problem with this world... people are not satisfied with what they do or are because they think other people are better off... I'll tell you how I take life, sister. You know, I take things as they are. What I have, I am satisfied with. Though I don't have many things others have, I am not discouraged or jealous bacause I believe that what God gives me, be it. Your problem here , I think is to look for work to get settle... Do not regret your past because that cannot come back... AND do not ask the above question because others do that... another comparison ! Be what you are.. AND I invite you to join the Seventh Day ADventist church because it has answers for you for today, and for your future and to eternity . God Bless you

I think all people have been there, even myself and I'm still there.
But you have to look for the right place for you, you know?
You like animals, art and traveling. You can be a photographer or an animal painter? There are many things you can do.
Good luck!

I am an artist. Sometimes I teach or work as a support assistant for a college. Working part time allows to spend time on your art.
You will be happy but poor!

I think the best thing for you to do is find a place to intern at or volunteer in something you really like.

I've been in this situation before and I discovered myself by doing things I like to do. Though it is difficult in finding your purpose. WE can't help you. It depends on how determined you are to finding yourself and what you want to do with your life.
