I think it is time for America to look at it's gun control policy. There's no need to ban civillians owning guns but things do need to tighten up. This psycho who killed those Amish children was armed to the teeth; why? What possible reason could a decent person have to justify legally owning all those guns?

There should only be one gun per person and that should be on the basis that the person takes gun lessons and bi-yearly psychological tests as well as proving the gun is locked away from children. Maybe then, these things wouldn't be happening so often.

Every law enforcement agency in the U.S. favors gun control. The ease by which people, and kids, can get their hands on guns is incredible.

I really don't believe every citizen could or would shot anyone, even if it meant in self defense. I believe the gun can be taken away from that person and used against him/her in a second. We should be looking to protect that person, the average citizen, not the thug, the hunter or the gun collector.

It has been said by many a late night comedians, that if you need a shotgun or a high powered rifle to shot a rabbit, maybe hunting is not your thing!

Hunters can have their hobby and so could gun collectors, as long as it doesn't threaten the life and security of John Q. Public. By tacking on a mandatory ten years for utilizing a gun in the commission of a crime would be a nice start at gun control. Also, civil suits should be initiated with a lot more ease in cases where a weapon was used.

So, to answer the asker question...what is happening to America...too many of the wrong voices are being heard. Let's listen to those who know about crime and punishment...those members of the law enforcement community who are sworn to protect us.

Not to belittle the issue, but there are more than 42,000 people killed in car crashes each year. That is nearly as many US soldiers who were killed in the entire Vietnam War.

The media and peoples' attention focuses way too much attention on teh extraordinary, but low-occurring events which, while horrific, are not the magnitude of many other events that happen every day, week or month.

Here is a statistic that nobody pays attention to: 4,700 teenagers are killed in traffic accidents each year - that is nearly 13 each day! And most people don't think about it at all.

What are we to about guns being taken to schools? I wish we could take them all away, but there are more guns in the US than there are people. Plus, the Supreme Court won't touch the 2nd Amendment.
We can't put concrete walls around all of our schools - or put armed police in front of every one.
I wish I did, but I don't have an answer.

Nothing that hasn't been happening all the time. Remember that bible college shooting a few years back. The main stream media talked about how student ssubdued him, then if you check, it was 1 student with a bigazz handgun telling him to dropit or die, (Offduty cop) Funny how the hundreds of thousands of people who use a gun hardly ever get mentioned.

As far as teen shooters....a tuned in parent should know if their teen is having problems...should not get to that... but too often teens and parents are disconnected. Afraid this is a sign of the times. A tuned in parent can go a long way to defusing a teen who is upset by helping them resolve issues that are upsetting...and really there is no need to have guns in a home unless you live in the rural and need it to keep coyotes out of the henhouse.

We have lost sight into what is more important. As parents we need to take back our children and raise them with love, patience and kindness. Giving them a big house, brand new car does not replace you being there. Stop expecting other people to raise your children. You had them now take responsibility for them.

I think there are a lot of copy cat killers who want the publicity, but I dont understand because when they kill themselves they cant really enjoy that publicity. Who knows!

The Bush administration. We never had these problems before him. When you have poor leadership what do you expect.
