it has to do with an iron (or some kind of vitamin) deficiancy commonly found in most african people, i think. the iron is needed more in other parts of the body than the hair, so it distributes less to the hair and more to the rest of the body.
so it grows slower.
i'm pretty sure that's it. don't write a book about it, i'm not sure.

Seriously, I don't think you can generalise in this.....there are also a lot of white people who's hair does not grow fast.
I THINK the hair of many "black" people grows at the same rate as that from white folks, it's their curles that make it SEEM to grow at a slower pace.

OMG. I am so tired of the double standard on this site, it's ridiculous. If I had asked why black people always seem to have short hair I would have 47 e-mails in my inbox calling me a racist. Yeah, don't worry I know there coming now just for saying this.

Because its all we got going for us. Diffrent races all have diffrent parts of the body that grow faster than another race, we got the hair, or it might have something to do with all the mayonase we white folk like to eat,and trust me its fair considering what some other races have going for them, nawmean

I'm not sure if their hair grows faster, my hairs really long it grows really fast too, boys hair grows really fast too(at least the guys I know)

I am a somewhat nappy headed white person, and your right, sometimes I can hear my hair grow at night and I have to put the radio on. rock and roll too, not adult contempo. Sometimes it grows so fast people will say "are you losing weight?" I just smile, fluff that fro and say; why yes, yes I am

I drink milk like crazy, and eat a lot of yogurt. Dairy rocks, and my hair grows pretty well.
