Today, i went to the doctor's and I have to take birth control. I didn't have any questions about it then, but I do now and I can't call now because one of my family members needs the phone.

1) The doctor told me to start taking the pill the sunday after it starts, why is that?

2) If you gain weight from taking bc, will you be able to lose it?

3) Do you take the placebo pill when you're on your period, and start taking the regular bc after it ends? Will there be enough placebo pills for my cycle? I didn't get my pills yet, so I don't know how many there are.

I have been on birth control for a while now so I may be able to help....here goes:

1) So that you don't go longer than a month without having your period, or so you don't skip it this time

2) Most birth controls now will help you lose weight actually (like Yasmin)....but if it does make you gain then switch birth controls. You will lose the weight after you stop taking them.

3) There are three weeks worth of yellow pills then one week of the white pills (placebos)....once you start taking the white pills, around your 2nd or 3rd day is when you start your period. When you are on birth control your period does not last long...only a few days.

I hoped I helped...any more questions just IM me!

Okay - most BC pills have days marked on the packet to help you remember if you've taken it that day, and so you know what day things like your period are going to happen on.

Healthy diet and exercising works for losing excess weight, no matter how you gained it.

There are usually 28 pills in a packet - 21 are active tablets - they have the hormones in them. 7 of the tablets are the placebo tablets and just contain lactose - a kind of sugar, they don't have any hormones in them, and are just there to remind you to take a pill everyday. (some packets only have the 21 active tablets, and you just have to remember to start taking them again after having a week off)

Taking the placebo pills brings on your period because the levels of hormones in your body drops once you stop adding them everyday. You'll usually get your period on the day you have your second placebo tablet. Keep taking the placebo tablets even if your period is over, then start the active tablets again the day after you finish the placebo tablets - this will regulate your hormones, and your periods.

Give these pills a try for at least three months. If you start getting breakthrough bleeding (like a mini period) in the middle of your cycle, that means that the dosage isn't right for you and you'll need to go back to the doctor - the pills would work fine for me for the first six months then I'd start getting breakthrough bleeding - I tried 6 different kinds until I found one that worked all the time.

The pills will come with an information leaflet that will tell you a whole heap of stuff. Just remember the seven-day rule if you miss a pill, take antibiotics or antifungals, take laxatives, vomit or have diarrhea. Avoid smoking, grapefruit and St Johns Wort as they can make the pill less effective.

Good luck.

I'll give you the answer for the first question, its because its very important to be very consistent in taking the pill in order to be successful therefore it comes packed by the day of the week so you should doubt if you took it or not, so the best thing is to start on a Sunday, so you shouldn't be confused, on the second question, there is no reason to be concerned about loosing weight, and if you do just post another question how to loose it, on the third question I really don't know the answer,,, good luck

All the questions have been pretty well-addressed but I will say that I have been on the pill for 6 years and have never gained weight from it. Nor can I think of anyone offhand who has.
