I'm in my 1st semester of nursing school. I have a hard time focusing on what I'm reading, sometimes I need to read something a few times to remember parts of it. Does anyone have suggestions for concentrating better?

You don't have to remember it right at that second, I always have that problem but then I just remember it later. On focusing better, go in a very quiet room, and make sure there is NO TV OR RADIO on. These are really really big distractions.

The best thing I found that works for me having music that I like and know well play in the background, just regular volume....not something you're just dying to hear and not something you can't stand....just regular music (I put my MediaPlayer/I-Pod on scramble) and begin to read slowly. It always works for me!!

If you need to remember certain parts, I'd suggest (which I"m SURE you know!) to highlight words/phrases and then try to tie them all together in your brain....

reading something a couple of times isn't bad...not everyone can instantly retain 100%!!

Good luck with nursing school and good choice! =)

What I did when I had trouble reading was that I would turn on a movie that I've seen about a hundred times. Turn down the volume and you can read it to the background of the movie. It was easy because I wasn't distracted by the movie because I've seen it already! Good luck!

Get yourself checked for ADD. The Doc may prescribe medication that could help.
