5. A computer can execute 36 instructions per microsecond. How many instructions can it execute in 4 min?

1.(3/4)9.. to solve, multiply by the inverse, so (3/4)*(1/9) then multiply across. you get 3/36, which reduces to 1/12
2.(5 1/3)/(2 2/5).. first, you need to change them to irrational fractions. so you have (16/3)/(12/5). you then need to multiply by the inverse. so (16/3)*(5/12), then multiply across. you get 80/36, which reduces to 20/9 or 2 2/9
3.You need to divide 60,000 by 3 3/4 to do that you first need to make 3 3/4 irrational which is 15/4 to divide you then need to multiply 60,000 by the inverse of 15/4 which is 4/15. you then multiply across. you can change 60,000 to 60,000/1 if that helps you. you get 240,000/15 which reduces to 16,000
4.You need to divide 41 1/2 by 3 3/4. first, change to irrational fractions. thats (83/2) / (15/4) then multiply the inverse((83/2)*(4/15)) which gives you 332/30 that gives you 11 1/15. so you have 11 pieces with 1/5 ft left.
5.1 second equals 1,000,000 microseconds. so multiply 36 by 1,000,000 which is 36,000,000 (so its 36,000,000 per second). there are 60seconds in a minute. so multiply 36,000,000 by 60, which is 2,160,000,000 (so its 2,160,000,000 per minute). So you multiply 2,160,000,000 by 4 to get 86,400,000,000. So a computer can execute 86,400,000,000 instructions in 4 min.

#1 when you have a fraction divided by another number, flip the other number over and multiply:
(3/4)*(1/9)------> 9 = 9/1
3/36
1/12

#2 first, find the LCD and make the fractions into improper fractions:
5 1/3 = 15/3 + 1/3 = 16/3
2 2/5 = 10/5 + 2/5 = 12/5

so you have
(16/3) / (12/5)

take the second fraction, flip it over and multiply by the reciprocal
(16/3) * (5/12)
80/36
20/9 or 2 2/9
