Fairly low cost and I'm no pro at grooming, but I can brush/give baths. Pretty small. Low maintence and needs to get along well with other animals and kids. CANNOT BE AGGRESSIVE. Also, I live in the country, and it may have to stay outside. Something that can show affection please. Please tell the breed if it's a dog.

It doesnt have to stay outside all the time, but it might if I'm gone, or if it's too big.

There's no such thing as a low maintenance pet. They all require lots of love, attention, and care. If you don't have the time to give to a pet, then you probably shouldn't get one. Pets are a part of your family and should be kept inside (unless it's a farm animal such as a goat). If you want an outside animal and have a barn, a goat would be a great pet. You still have to devote a lot of love and time to make it a good pet though.

First I would have said a dog, like golden retriver or a labrador, but the dog, you need to take care and you don't want too much high maintanance. One thing about dogs you have to work with them when they are between 2 to 5 months to teach them to respect your furniture, shoes etc. and also to socialise them with other animals, and people. So I have to say a cat will be the best bet for you since they are low maintenance.
P.S if you ever decide to get a dog don't get it from a pet shop but get it from a reputable breeder, and make sure you get a course on how to train puppies.

If your animal may have to stay outside, I wouldn't suggest getting an animal at all. There's really no point to having a pet if it lives outside, and that's not very fair to the pet.
