The best proven way to study is repetition. If you really want to remember something for a very long time then you need to revise the material everyday once you read it over and over and over you will never forget it!!!

Put on some repetitive music that will blot out other distracting sounds but won't distract you itself. Make short notes on what you're revising, you'll take it in better and you can refer back to the notes (I use those index cards, but paper would be fine too).
Have a smell around you, e.g. burn lavender oil while you're studying, then take that smell into a test with you. It's proven to help you remember things.

what always helped me was studying right before bed and then as soon as I got up in the morning. It didn't matter if it was biology or lines for a play.
I seemed to retain more that way than if I just studied whenever.

I read the text book two times. This way I can study well.

The best way I study is just doing practice tests over, and over, and over. This works especially well when preparing for AP Exams. I try to look up the website for my textbook, and usually there are practice tests on it.

In short periods. Write a public speech about the facts and recite.

WIERD BUT TRUE: iF I NEED 2 STUDY SOME WORDS OR MEMMORIZE TO B MORE SPACIFIC I MAKE IT INTO A SONG AND KEEP SINGING IT AND SINGING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. NOT REALLY A SONG, BUT I PUT THE WORDS IN A TUNE AND SING IT. ONCE THE TUNE WAS STUCK IN MY HEAD AND I WAS SINGIN MY SONG DOWN THE HALL.
