There is a book fair every weekend under the bridge, just along the Thames. I can't remember how far down it is... I walked from the Tate Modern, and it was less than 10 minutes. Theres TONS of used books, and all cheap!!

Try the tip - people dump boxes of them there - or a bootsale near it's end - again sometimes people dump or give away what they can't sell.
I'm not sure if 'Freecycle' website has any books.

If your looking for something specific or rare abebooks.co.uk are excellent but not necessarily cheap - depends on the bookseller

Charity shops, car boot sales and cheap second hand book stalls at churches are the best place to look.

Thrift stores.

You'll have to do some seaching through all the ones there but they are lots of books some as cheap as 25 cents.

I find Addall.com of great value in looking for second hand and out of print books -- it is a search facility that searches a large number of book sites very quickly and allows you to compare prices etc.

Good luck
