San Diego is a nice place to live. I am from Chicago and its safe and is a nice size city. Crime happens but not compared to LA. Depends what area of the city you live in. As far as public transportation its pretty reliable, we have trolleys and buses. It doesn't run all night like Chicago. I like it b/c it is small and most of the people are nice. Its a military town and the weather is normally sunny and not a lot of rain. But the houses cost too much and rent isn't cheap either. You can't get anything cheap when the weather is sooo nice. San Diego has a lot to offer and plenty of things to do and great scenery.

It is a safe and wonderful place to live, I would imagine. My mother-in-law has a yacht docked in the harbor, so I've visited often and loved it every time! See the link below to Money Magazine's 2006 Best Places to Live. San Diego is listed at #5 for the 10 best big cities. Crime is one factor they take into consideration when selecting cities.

San Diego is a great place to live, however, the cost of living is high and unless you make at least $50k per year, it is a bit difficult to live here. The salaries are par to the cost of living. I know many people who lived here and left because they could not afford it.

most areas are "safe" but there are bad parts in every city for a break down of a certain area check out http://www.realtor.com and enter the city or zip code you are thinking about and it can break down the income the crime rate and a few other tid bits of info. Some of the cities in san diego are : san diego, el centro, encinitas, oceanside, pacific beach, coronado, carlsbad, la jolla, la mesa, el cajon, Del mar, rancho santa fe, etc........

It could be considered safe yes, but you still want to lock your doors and everything because no place is ultimately safe
