watch springer and remind yourself that every guest on the show keeps as clean a house as you do...if that doesn't motivate you, nothing will

My belief is that except for so-called "neat freaks", no one actually enjoys cleaning their house; it's just a necessary evil. It's hard to get motivated to do ANYTHING that isn't fun/pleasant/exciting. As a reformed slob all I can tell you is that what worked for me was to break down the task into very small individual tasks and then spread those tasks over days (rather than try to tackle it all in one BIG project). I used to let dishes pile up to the moon so I made the decision that if I washed just one dish, one glass and one piece of silverware each day I felt a lot less intimidated by the idea of tackling all those dishes. It took time to get through it all needless to say, but it was a LOT less time than waiting to get motivated to clean everything. Start with one portion of one room: a chair where you stack up your laundry, a bathroom sink/counter, etc. Just clean one small portion each day. Keep the task really small and you'll be motivated enough to do just that one thing. Next day, move on to another. In a couple of weeks your house will be cleaned (probably 2 weeks faster than it would have gotten done!

If you enjoy a clean house then that's the motivation. If your a bit messy then you'll be okay w/a bit of a mess. If you have not cleaned in a long while and dread doing it then I would suggest you do some everyday.
I am motivated by hating to see the dirt and grime. Everyone is different. Good luck.

Music is great for motivation. But having people come over, always made me wanna sit and chat w/them, and it depended on the person. If it was some one I knew, I didnt care what my house looked like. On the other hand if that person is a clean freak and you invite them over, that might give you the motivation to clean your house. Also, I found that if you go to a "clean freaks" house, it kinda wears off on you, and it makes you wanna go home and clean yours cause ya wanna be like them. OR, a change in your room, and how it looks. Change your furniture around if possible.

Tell yourself you won't watch TV (or whatever you like to do) until the house is clean. Or like the first person said, invite someone over for dinner, that always helps me get in gear.

like the other people i put on good songs - i need to be in a good mood to clean
also i think of the end result and how nice my house will look - i do tend to be more motivated when i know i have people visiting.

Have a crane bring in 400 ponds of dirt and drop it in your house...I'm pretty sure you'd be motivated to clean that.....

LOL

I dunno just start thinking of the things you wish you could find that are lost and buried somewhere .
After a while it will tick you off that you don't have em then you'll go on a rampage!!!

Just make it into a fun activity for yourself and whoever else lives with you. Music really does help. And make sure the T.V. is off cuz that's just a big distraction. Go through it room by room and you'll be done before you know it.
