Because it's such a huge company, it can lean on suppliers to give it special bulk rates and discount deals that aren't available to smaller chains and individual stores. It's the same idea as if you belonged to a co-op or club store (Sam's, Costco), only it's a single company instead of a bunch of individuals. That is, by buying in bulk, it saves on its wholesale costs and passes the savings on to you. As far as its non-food products, it has dedicated (Wal-mart only) factories in China to manufacture electronics, clothing, housewares, etc. Those are so cheap because Wal-mart has made deals with the Chinese government to manufacture its products in bulk at a cut rate in that country.

I'm not going to even try to explain basic economics to you based upon your previous question about Wal-Mart. Your written communication skills leave much to be desired. I will say this: Wal-mart discounted those slippers because no one was buying them. They had to sell them so they could make room for the things people want to buy. Its basic retail.

well the reason why they do this is because of their profits and because many people prefer other stores such as k-mart & target...so what they r trying 2 do is get more people 2 shop there.
