This is no shocker. It's only a matter of time before this happens in my own community and it could be my own children getting killed. I would really like to find a solution, but I'm not sure what that would be other than trying to keep my kids out of dangerous situations as much as possible. That guy should be shot and killed on the spot. I think this country gives way too much slack on these kinds of things. I mean, what a freak and dirtbag. Why didn't he get help - instead of going on like he has some great excuse for doing it becuase he was fantasizing about evil thoughts and had a stillborn? Lots of people have still borns. If everybody who had a stillborn felt they had the right to hurt people and go on a shooting rampage, then there wouldn't be alot of people left in the world. He has no excuse and deserves the death penalty - people need to know that there are serious consequences for their actions - something more in situations like this than a posh jail cell with full amenities including television, meals, college education and a fitness program all for free. If people are held accountable for doing social irresponsible actions - others might think twice before deciding to do something stupid. And then there is his wife - okay - she has a prayer group for the children of the community and she didn't have a good enough relationship with her husband to know something was amiss???? I just can hardly believe that she was covering up for his sickness by appearing to be a wonderful lady. She should have made him get the help he needs - she became a partner just by allowing him to continue in his sickness without dealing with his feelings. I am glad that the people involved are believers because it would be 10x worse if they had no real and living hope to go on with.

Atrocious, wish I'd been visiting my Mennonite sister and dropped by the Amish school for a day....he'd have had the other end of a semi-auto .45 to factor into his plans....

not only did he target innocent girls who've probably never even considered the concept of sex and PLANNED to assault them, he then selected the younger girls and TIED THEM UP!! When he chose the only sect of people who wouldn't even fight back...

I mean, my gosh what kind of STATEMENT did he think he was making??

Nobody care anything about him or his problems...his poor family though....what a burden to bear

This really has made me further respect the Amish and FURTHER solidify my plans to homeschool my children...(and yes, before anyone attacks me, I realize that this nutcase was homeschooled...but first research the GREATER number of those who've excelled above and beyond the norm)

The Amish are a truly blessed people. As they are coming to grips with the deaths of 5 of their daughters and 5 more cling to life in the hospital, they are reaching out to the gunman's family with love and forgiveness. It is heart-wrenching enough when another child brings weapons to school, killing classmates and teachers. But, when an adult comes into a school and kills children, it is beyond comprehension. My heart is full of sadness for this community. They are in my prayers. I knew that they would not rant and rave against the killer or his family. I was not surprised that they reached out to them with love. They are demonstrating Jesus Christ's love in the way they live their lives, not just in words, but in deeds. God bless them all!

It's hideous. I've deliberately not thought in detail about what actually happened because it's so horrific. I just don't understand how any man, especially a family man can do that. He was obviously a psycopath and in his mind his sick wants were all that mattered. The parents of the victims will be inconsolable and they will never get over this.

I was just mortified, what is going on??? You know, I can't think of what motivates a person to do such things and more over to children. Why don't they go to a police training field? Let the professionals have a go at them. These children have no defense, at least give our future police officers some real practice. It is all too common and scary.

The dude was nuts. Suppressed pedophile. Tried to just stifle his defect, and look what happened - he got totally deranged.

Choice of school? Not really random. I think he chose it. Because it was small and manageable for him - the stuff he took in with him shows he planned on that school.
