Depends on your resolution. Higher the resolution the more noticeable the difference is. at 1024 x 786, you probably won't notice much difference but when you go 1600 x 1200 or higher you will notice the difference.

If you are comparing the exact same card and the only difference is the amount of RAM, then yes. But just becasue one type ofcard has 512 and the other type has 256 does not mean the one with 512 is better.

Doom3 has shown a noticeable improvement in frames per second with 512MB over a 256MB card.
