My car can't pass the emission here in GA, since the communication link for the OBD-II is not responding.
I've traced the problem to the ECU, and I don't want to spend
several 100 on this, when I think it may be a simple component
on the ECU, related to the communication port. I need the schematics to be able to find the problem on the ECU.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Both RiverRat and LEXUSry are dead on.
The no communication fault is generated when the diagnostic port (DLC) has no power or ground readable by the equipment, be it a scanner, code reader or smog machine. Check the fuse, and if all is well and still no communication, take it G.M. No one else has the PROPER equipment for this procedure. There are after-market re-programmers, and some parts houses have them, but they don't always have the proper information for the re-programming, and as a result you an have drivability and performance problems, as well as they may fail emissions testing.

Good Luck

The ECU is not serviceable in any manner and will require replacement if in fact that is your problem....it should be a last
resort... 90% of the time there will be a wiring or gang plug connector problem.... "The Como link may inoperative may be
as simple as a Blown Fuse" The Como link as you refered to it is the connection for an OBD-ll Scanner and has nothing to do
with the engine running... it is merely a communication port...
better get help and don't mess with the ECU

if your wiring and connections are good then you need a new ecu. several hundred dollars is a bit steep though. call around for prices, and perhaps call a salvage yard and get a used one. be prepared though as you will most likely have to pay a GM Dealership to reprogram the vehicle for you.
