Has anyone heard of the smoking ban thats being placed in several PA counties? what are your thoughts? Do you think its fair to smokers to be banned from places we have every right to go?

I'm not saying that I'm for the ban or against the ban. I am not a smoker, but my husband is. Right now, he can smoke at work, but once this takes effect, he won't be able to, which is causing him a lot of stress.
I do, however, feel that it is someones choice to smoke, and that government should be worrying about other things like factories and businesses that are polluting the air.
I understand that people will eventually adapt to the changes, but what I don't understand is how they can ban it in public places, but not in casinos. Doesn't make sense. So they will kill local bars and restaurants, but promote casinos. Doesn't quite add up.

I am a smoker, do not live in PA, but a lot of the other states, are doing the smoking bans. I do not smoke around children, or people that appose to it, but I do believe we have rights too. I think a lot of them are carrying it a bit too far. We have cars and factories, and other air pollutants, that they should be doing more about.I also think restaurants, etc. should have the right to make the choice of whether they want smoking area's or not.

Our Governor (Sonny Purdue) here in Georgia passed a ban against smoking this past summer which affects every bar, restaurant, parking lot (exaggerating, but you get the idea), or any other public place you can think of.
Without even addressing whether this was a good move or not, I can't help wondering why such a law was passed without any opportunity for the public to vote.
This alarms me; Governor Purdue is in office to do many things, but to monitor my environs is NOT one of them...nor is it his place to tell restaurants and bars how to run their establishments.
I'm wary of laws being enacted for which I have had no opportunity to make my opinions known; so should everyone else.
Unfortunately, so many people are high-fiving each other over the *content* of this new law, that it has escaped their notice that they never went to the polls to decide the issue; it was decided FOR them.
This is a terrible precedent.

Smokers are not banned from anywhere, only smoking is. You may go where you like. Here in Florida, we are a 'clean air' state. Meaning that there is no smoking allowed in public venues. This is such a blessing to those of us who don't smoke b/c there is nothing worse than walking into a restaurant and being hit by a wall of smoke. Smoking and non-smoking sections don't work b/c the smoke is not contained to that section. Either way, someone's going to be put out and frankly, since those of us who don't smoke don't affect your health, it should be the people who make a personal choice to damage their own lungs.

Well, quit smoking and you can go anywhere you want. It's not like they're banning smoking because they hate you. What they hate is the cigarettes. They should make cigarettes illegal altogether.
Having a smoking and non smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing and non peeing section in a pool.
Do you know how much I hated restaurants when I was little, because of that awful smell. You think it's unfair for you, you're only thinking about yourself, and you don't care about other people.

Smoking, being one of the nastiest habits, should be banned from EVERY outdoor venue. Period. If you want to smoke, do it in your car or your house. I won't force you to drink my booze, why should I suffer from your vice? Once an ex-smoker, now an anti-smoker.
