I just bought an 2005 r1 and it has 1700 miles on it.Question is I changed my oil and used castrols semi synthetic oil on it.I heard that using semi synthietic oil on low milage bikes is bad.Is that true?

No, after 1000 miles or so the engine is considered "broken in" by most manufacturers and a semi-syn will work fine.

BUT...

You CANNOT use automotive oil in a motorcycle, synthetic or not! Well, you can, but your clutch will feel crappy and the acids produced during combustion will eat your crankcase AND your gears. Not a good idea.

Motorcycle specific oil contains friction modifiers for your transmission and MUCH more acid neutralizers than car oil. So as long as you used Castrol MOTORCYCLE oil, you're fine.

Youre fine, you dont really want to put it in till you have about 1000 miles, youre almost double, enjoy. 04 R1 here.

By doing that you voided any warranty on the bike.yamalube is the only oil to use and the dealer has to change it if you want to keep your warranty sorry. now you should use the same brand and weight every time.

befor the first 1000 yes......but you have it broke in now so useing that is fine.......
