I don't believe anything is in-bred, Blitz. I am reminded, when this sort of question is asked, that the US is a severely divided nation. That may have always been true but when times get hard we always start looking for scapegoats To some, liberals fit the bill, to others it's the fault of immigration or gays or some other category.
Don't forget that in the '30s in Germany it was the jews, the gypsies and the gays or in other words, the outsiders....
The problem as I see it is that the US is a nation of outsiders bound together by the idea that everything is possible.
When we start to doubt, as many are now doing ( a majority?), we wonder, "what went wrong", and we look for who to blame.
So it's not a case of saying so-and-so is stupid, but rather more of regretting that the US does not have a leader capable of keeping the country united as in UNITED STATES.

I think its an illness but lucky for us, it is easily cured by
1.) Getting a job and working hard.
2.) Being held accountable for your own decisions and actions
3.) Reading something other than the Communist Manifesto
4.) Expanding a vocabulary beyond "Its all Bush's fault mannn"
5.) One bullet to the temple.
