I have been selected to be an intern in the State Department this spring and I am waiting to receive my security clearance papers. I heard there was a "way" to do security clearance. I was just wondering what is involved and if there is anything I should know while filling out the papers.

they will take care of it - the things you heard of are private programs for people who need a security clearance to work for companies with government contracts

all government employees ( and interns ) are subject to a FBI investigation for any required clearances there is nothing you can do to speed up this slow process ( i had a wait of 3 months as an existing employee for a secret clearance )

AS FOR THE ABOVE answer - nope i also had a USAF clearence but yours is much simpler they will visit nobody just check you out on national databases ( this is the State Department ! now if you were working with Homeland Security )

as long as you're in a TS cleared place, you will undergo a periodic reinvestigation (the two SSBI-PR or PPR) each and every 5 years. There is additionally until now investigations if the employer which cleared you obtains derogatory information approximately you. The clearance is administratively withdrawn or downgraded once you no longer choose it. when you flow away government provider (or a settlement), the study remains valid for as much as two years.

I had a clearance in the 70s. I was investigated by the FBI! I was so scared that I wouldn't pass! But heck, if the coke heads and pedophiles from our government can get clearance, anyone can!

I went through one working for the FAA. It was pretty easy. Just make sure you answer all the questions correctly. Most of it is addresses and where you worked or if you have been convicted of any crimes.
Just put honest answers and if you make a mistake and have to erase something, intial it. That way they know that you erased that part.
You will be just fine!

Fill out everything completely and truthfully. They will call and visit many people from your past. There are a lot of things that the gov. can live with but being a liar isn't one of them.
