Shaving cream harms gold as such that it starts a buildup of residue on it. If his ring comes in contact with shaving cream often, then soon a buildup of the residue will show on the ring making it dull. This can at times be cleaned with something like toothpaste but it's better not to take a chance.
Also perfumes, make up, body lotions, moisturizers, hairsprays...if you come in contact with them too much, they start affecting the appearance of jewelry. And if you wear rings with stones on them while removing your nail polish if you wear any, be careful. The stones get loosened for some reason with the fumes from the nail polish remover.

It will be fine. Gold (even white) is completely inert and doesn't react with anything available in householde items or chemicals.

no. gold stands up well to all sorts of chemicals. don't ever get bleach in sterling silver, though!
