At the time I thought it was horrible, creepy, and unhelpful. But now whenever people mention the holocaust, I have a visual reference and a good idea what happened at concentration camps. That movie really puts nazism into perspective and I really get mad when people suggest that Jews dont deserve their own country or Israel should be wiped off the map.

You don't say if you have seen "Schindler's List" or not. If not, rent the video and see for yourself. It is a wonderful story about a German Nazi member (played by Liam Neesom) who owned a factory and employed Jews. The factory operated at a loss but still he helped his Jewish employees to give them income. .....skipping to the end.... The situation caused him financial ruin. He cried that he did not save enough Jews. His accountant (played by Ben Kingsley) assured him that he did enough and to not feel bad for those he couldn't save. Steven Spielberg did a very good job with a delicate subject. There are no unbearable pictures of tortured people. It is top-quality Spielberg work.

The movie is a very powerful and thought provoking. If you have not seen it you might not understand that. It is also controversial due to the language in it. This caused it to receive an R rating when it was released.

It is also based on a real person and him putting his life on the line for the lives of 1100 Jews in nazi Germany.

here here! I agree with you.
It was not or is not a good movie at all.
All that movie ever did for me is to make me
depressed. I bought the DVD because I heard it
was so good. When I watched it, man, what a disappointment.

For me it was kind of like watching Apollo 13. I remember it, why should I watch the movie? I know the outcome, I know what happened, why do I need a movie to tell me what I remember? The same thing as these 9/11 movies. How depressing and we already know the stories and outcomes. Thanks for saying something about this.

Did you watch it and still don't know? It is the true story of how an influential businessman in Nazi Germany was able to save a handful of Jews from certain extinction by having them work in his cookware plants. I shows how he worked the system, at first for business reasons- but then it became a humanitarian objective. He lived lavishly, profitting from the war, and in the end began to see that for the price of objects of luxury, like his luxury sedan, he could have "bought" or saved the lives of even more Jews. Liam Neissen deserved the Oscar for his performance that year, but lost out to Tom Hanks in "Philadelphia".

I think the visual background really felt like what the concentration camps looked like and it was raw how they show naked people being checked for illnesses - they didn't sugar coat it. This is important to get a lesson from the sad experience. People fought to survive despite the inhumane treatment they were experiencing.

because as you watched it unfold, we know the ending, and could not stop what was going to happen. then again it stayed with the truth, it did not add goofy storylines, it left a tiny bit of hope in the heart. and a huge hole....
