Sam Walton (owner but now deceased) opened the chain. but the first on was a little store (like dollar general or something smaller than wal mart) and then saw the need for bigger and better things.....boy did he make good business decisions. did you know that there are wal marts all over the world. i saw one on tv in japan. walmart was written in japanese but the news anchor said it was walmart. the building looked like a regular wal mart. did you know that the "ole roy" dog food that they sell at wal mart was named after sam walton's bird dog? his picture is on the bag. that is why you can not find this namebrand any where besides walmart/sams club. this is all interesting info huh?

Sam Walton started the company and when he passed away he left it to his 4 children but they are not the sole owners as the company has publicly traded stock on the N.Y. stock exchange but the children hold more stock than anyone.......
