I have been out of touch with comics for a long time. I think the infinity gauntlet and infinity war was almost 20 years ago. Has marvel done any other series similar to this since then? I like it when cosmic beings like eternity and the living tribunal have to get involved.

They were in this order The Infinity gauntlet, The infinity War, The Infinity Crusade, & The Infinity Abyss. For good measure you may want to pick up The End its along the same lines(it has Thanos in it).

Get Civil conflict #a million. it relies upon on how huge he's into comics. If he's in basic terms into the hero vs hero stay with the Civil conflict yet whilst he needs to understand the who,what,the place & why get the entire sequence. there's a catalogue wikipedia.
