I'm a political moderate. So when I answer questions asked by radical conservatives, they condemn me for being a spineless liberal, and when I answer questions posed by radical liberals, they condemn me for being a brainless conservative. As long as I'm getting attacked equally by both sides, I guess I'm right where I ought to be.

It's a shame that Yahoo Answers didn't become a place where those on the left and right could get together and work out differences, maybe come up with a workable plan that suits both sides. Instead, it's just another forum for radical invective from both sides, where angry people from each wing get toghter to bash each other's brains out. Any serious attempts at a solution to these challenging issues gets swept aside in the rising tide of vitriol.

It's apparent that nobody cares about compromise anymore, from Washington all the way down to Yahoo. All over America, you either agree, or you're an idiot. There is no middle ground anymore.

Maybe, once these extremes have effectively torn the country apart, people will wake up and realize that America is not about being vindicated, it's about doing the best you can for the most you can.

Chredon makes sense. Most people are in the middle. So, why is there so much fighting? The thing is, with the 2 party system, there will always be people instigating against the other side. It just seems more so now- I mean there are legitimate reasons people are upset. When our country's leaders begin representing the people again, the people will feel more unified. Many people who are speaking out now will have no reason to when the country's domestic needs are being met.

I have noticed the term liberal is used as if there is a club. Most people are liberal on some issues and conservative on others. When they are attacked, all they know is they are being attacked. In the long run it is probably not a good approach. You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Fascists of any breed republican or democrat need you to adhere to a strict dogma. If you appear to think for yourself or question what's going on, then you fall out of line. They need you to fall in line. Authoritarianism strips independent free will from the people and hands it over to the ones in control, that's how they maintain their power structure. Anything that goes against this is not allowed. They must maintain the power structure at all costs, and many times that includes the truth.
