under the hood, in a plastic box on the fender well, about 8x10", it will have a big hose on the side going to the engine.

Open the hood. On the left side of the engine compartment near the front is a black box about the size of a Kleenex box. The lid is attached with spring latches. There is a large diameter hose running into it from the top. Open it and you will find the air filter element which is replaceable.

you fail to mention what year. On the newer ones it is burried in the drivers side fender. It is certainly not meant to be checked often. In fact on the newer style it is a 100k mile air filter and the dealer gets around $300-$500 to replace it. No crap do some research. But if you have an older one then the above answers are fine.
