BEST ANSWER:

every single time i have ignored my instinct(s), i've made a major mess. I have ****** up my whole life, or just lost something important.

It' s hard to blindly follow your instinct, though.
But i try and try and try...

BTW: i have followed my instinct right now.

i wasn't gonna read your question. but my instinct told me to. and i did.

we shall see if following pays or not. ;)

An instinct is not the same thing as a 'hunch.' The simple fact that you are able to ignore your 'instinct' or do something besides what you would otherwise be compelled to do, tells you its not a true instinctive behavior.

A proper instinctive behavior would be pulling your hand back from touching a hot stove. You simply can't do otherwise. Or holding your breath until you die (its not possible, you should try it).

Another, more complex instinct would be your sexual orientation. You could try to be 'gay', but if you happen to be 'straight' you'll find the experience ultimately unappealing, and visa versa.

Humans are unique among animals in their ability to overcome most preset behavioral tendancies. Some sociologists have concluded that humans have no 'instincts' as such. This is hotly debated.

"Best example gets the 10 points"

...Wonder what the purpose of that statement could be.

And yes, I normally follow my instincts but didn't before I married. I guess divorce after only 4 yrs is "deep trouble"

One time i was going to go to a party, and my instinct said.. well, maybe i should sit this one out. But i went anyways. It turned out that i had a sh*tty time, there was no one cool or attractive, all i did was sit on a couch with a girlfriend of mine. Then my mom called me on my cell phone saying she had fallen down the stairs and that she was in the hospital. If i had been there it might not have happened.

When my daughter was only 3 weeks old, she woke up choking, I managed to clear her airway (i'm an EMT) so she could breath, but something told me to go ahead and take her to the ER. By the time we got there she was cooing and nursing fine. I figured that "nervious parent syndrome" would be called by the doc. Instead he checked her over and said "she's fine, but lets keep her overnight anyway." I asked the M.D. why and he said "I don't know something is just telling me we need to observe her." It turned out she had viral menegitis and spent the next two weeks fighting the illness off. (She recovered fully, Thank God!). If my little alarm bells go off, I listen.
