I have had a broken toe before. I know exactly what it feels like. I jsut stubbed my toe on a chair and it broke. I heard that crack and so did my mom. I was wondering what should I do to help it heal? i dont have the money to go to the doctor. My insurance will pay for an urgent care visit or an emergency room visit but I would rather not go to the ER for a toe, im sure someone would laugh. I am in the health field and i know there isnt much they can do except x-ray it and say yah its broken. So what should I do to help it feel. What supplies do i need? thanks so much for the advice! Angie

You will want to elevate it and ice it and take ibuprofen for the pain and swelling. You also need to imoblize it with medical tape. Don't try and squeeze your foot into a shoe either, but do try to wear something that will support your foot and keep it in alignment, like Birkenstocks. Keep off of it as much as possible. This is what the podiotrist will tell you. There is really not much that can be done for a broken toe.

I am sorry to say, but I have a very strong feeling there is no non-prescription medicine that helps heal a broken toe. I'm afraid you may have to go to the doctor. I know if I had a broken toe, I would not care if someone laughed at me. I would want it to be taken care of right away. So, I think your best bet is to go to the doctor and at least see if it's broken or not. Your assumption of it being broken may not be so accurate. Hope you feel better soon.

I would go if you can- it would be unprofessional and rude for someone to laugh at your injury, no matter how 'silly' it may seem to anyone. I have had my foot broken before- nothing really they can do for that, either. The best thing to do is go to the doctor- if not that maybe try getting some crutches and keep the weight off the foot for 6-8 weeks, and keep the toe stiff. They gave me a really hard soled shoe for me to wear so I COULDN'T move my foot. Alternate heat and cold on it to reduce swelling. I would imagine they would give you some pain medication at he doctors, I don't think a simple aspirin is going to make that feel better. Hope you feel better soon! :)

You need to tape it to your healthy toe and basically just stay off it as much as possible. In the meantime wear soft shoes like flip-flops so your toe doesn't feel like it's being squeezed. When you're not busy you should rest with your foot elevated and an ice pack on your toes. That's what one of my friends did when she broke her toe last summer. She dropped a garbage can on it while at work. It took her 2 weeks to get better. Hope you feel better soon.

My grandma broke her second toe(the one next to the big toe) and didn't realize it until it wasn't in the right place. Here is a suggestion, tape it the broke toe to the toe next to it. It's just an idea. The sooner the better.

it really all depends on what toe you hit.... if it was your little toe, then don't worry, we actually break our little toes about 3 - 7 times a year on average, this heals naturally and you needn't worry. if it is your big toe, again, it will heal without you needing to go into the hospital, however you obviously shouldn't walk on it, leave it in or on ice for a good few hours to help mimimize swelling of the tissues and don't go to work!!! lol... it's a valid excuse!!

The best thing that you an do is wrap it up with medical tape. Keep changing the tape every day or after you get out of the shower. Keep wrapping it for 1-3 months depending on how it feels.

What you say that's a very important and emergency case for your health. So your insurance must pay your hospital costs.
Otherwise you can get help from the churches.
Wish you a good health.
