Politics has turned into a "gotcha" game so no one really wins, especially the voters.
Term limits would be a good start so that the incumbency will not always lead to victory. We have professional politicians now, instead of citizen statesmen.

Sorry I don't. But, I do understand your frustration. I am registered non-partison for the very reason you state "no real progress and in-fighting and media wars.
I don't agree with another party. Remember Perot and the American party, the green party and there are a few more. Unfortunately they have the tendancy to water down the election. Although I did enjoy Perot's asault on the deficit and the debt. He successfully informed the public about the real issues. We just need more people out there asking the unpopular questions and forcing the big 2 to deal with the real issues.

Both parties it seems like treat public office like a PRIZE to be won and trophy to take from your opponent. Its basically now a SPORT. But I applaud people that are more serious about it like GWB that treat it for what it is, a public service.
What you have though in these 2 parties is a good dichotemy of liberal and conservative (though its not always as clear cut as that) values, which is a blessing to people that vote the issues. For instance, if youre a diehard union fan- you vote democratic for life. If youre a diehard Christian- you vote republican for life. When you vote by the issues, it makes the choices pretty clear!

A poll asked this question several years ago, and the results were something like 75% of the country thought that all politicians in Congress were scumbags, but over 60% said that THEIR scumbag was doing a good job!

I AGREE. I AM A REGISTERED DEMOCRAT ALSO BUT I VOTED FOR THE OTHER GUY. DUE TO THAT FACT THAT I THOUGHT THE DEMOCRATS ARE PUSHING FORWARD WORTHLESS CANDIDATES. WE REALLY NEED TO GET AWAY FROM THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM AND GIVE AMERICANS A REAL CHOICE AT THE POLLS. NEITHER PARTY HAS A VIABLE CANDIDATE FOR 2008. WE'RE DOOMED IF THEY DON'T GET IT TOGETHER.

There are a few who actually want to represent their constituency , but the partisan politics get in the way. We should vote for the candidate according to his platform, not his party alliance.

I agree, but the sad truth is that if you vote for a third party, you might as well not vote at all. I vote for the lesser of the evils.

I am a registered Republican, and I'm pretty fed up with quite a lot of them on both sides, myself, but, I imagine, for entirely different reasons than you are.

You want someone to "do something"? I thought most of this country's problems were due to politicians "doing something."
