it does not make any sense, cause horses have nothing to do with patients.

Horses do not generally like to stand around and wait. A person sitting on an impatient horse would have to "hold his horses" so the horse will not start wandering.

The saying originated in the Old West. It means "hold your horses" and don't just run into things. In other words be patient and wait.

Firstly, I have a peeve with spelling, sorry, but it's 'patience'. But on to the question... Horses are revered as high spirited, anxious creatures who love to run and be active. The way I look at it, when horses first were being tried to be converted from wild to tamed, the horse driver would have little control over them and they must use patience and work at calming them. I don't know, it's just how I figure it...

Patience not patients. Hold your horses. Slow down. It means come to a stop which would be reining in your horse, bringing them to a stop.

It's patience, not patients. "Hold your horses" dates back to the days before there were cars. When you went on a mad dash, you spurred your horses on to make them go fast. But if you pulled back on the reins, or "held your horses," they would go slower. In other words, slow down--"hold your horses."

"Hold Your Horses" means to have patience or to tone it down. Good things come to those who wait.
