I was wondering how many ways there are to damage a computer so I can prevent them in a future. Including software and hardware damage.

There are too many ways to damage a computer. From physical damage to software damage.

Viruses would be the main thing as far as software.
ESD would be the main thing as far as physical.

you should never have any kind of liquid near a computer. if it spills you'll short out your computer or monitor or mouse or keyboard or all of the above.

you can get a screen cover or keyboard covers. some keyboard covers are see through and are thin and pliable enough to allow you to type with it over the keyboard. this is for the knuckleheads that ignored what i said about never having liquids near your computer.

also floppy disks are made from the same material that camera film is made from. this material is temperature sensitive. if you set a box of disks in a window sill the sun will melt them. never put them where direct sunlight can hit them.

floppy drives have recording heads just like cassette tape decks do. if you have a floppy drive you should go to an office supply and get a floppy drive cleaning kit to clean those heads. have them show you how to use it. if you don't do this once a week or so the drive will create errors on your floppy disks.

Keep hammers and sharp objects away. Keep all liquids away. Don't drop the computer. Do not run it over with the car. Keep away from the Taliban, Al Quada, and Al Gore. Don't let Congressman Foley (R-FL) use it to send naughty emails to his teenage boy love interest.

i used a 12 gauge shotgun on my last one. does some damage. when i am through with this one i am going to pull out my russian 30 cal semi auto rifle. use armor piercing incendiary rounds on it. or perhaps my 8mm mauser. either way its lots of fun. just a suggestion but hey, it keeps them from coming back in the future.

Downloading does not injury your workstation. yet... Viruses have been modern in all kinds of downloads, or maybe on OEM motive force CDs. not each and every little thing you acquire is risky, yet you are able to on no account be completely specific. in basic terms considering you un-set up a downloaded software, or whether you do not set up it, a deadly disease continues to be going to place in itself - it somewhat is what they do. some viruses re-set up themselves on an analogous time as quickly as they are un-put in. Virus injury could make your workstation un-useable.

There's a song by Megadeth "99 Ways to Die". I think it applies to computers too.
