Smell memory means everything to me-
When I was little (2yrs old)my mom left me with my dad he got full custody of me I didn't see or hear from my mom ever again- I had no memory of her not even a picture, I thought my step-mom was my real (my dad told me)mom so basically I never knew she even existed but when I was growing up every now and then I would smell this wonderful scent that made me cry just out of nothing! I would really start to cry sometimes it would creep me out, I would say why am I crying? Anyway one day my dad told me about my birth mom- he had no idea where she was so I started looking for her and when I finally found her One day I told her about this "scent" and how it made me feel I asked her "mom, did you put on perfume when I was little ?"she said yes! She said I always used to use Chantilly and I would always would spray some on you because I always wanted you to smell good....I broke down and we both started crying......
Thanks for making me remember......

I do! I can remember a lot of smells! Like the smell of visitor when visitors came into the house where I live. Also I remember the smell of when I would go outside and play with my friends in my old neighborhood at my old house. I liked smelling that, but now I haven't smelled that smell in about 4 to 5 years! Its been so long though. And sometimes, my teachers at my old school used so much cologne, that it got all over my school papers when I got home! ^_^

All the time. There is a certain smell, that I can't identify, but it is sort of a rank water smell that always reminds me of my first time on the Pirates of the Carribean ride as a kid (I was maybe 3) and that awful tea rose perfume (usually mixed with the distinct odor of alcohol) reminds me of one of my aunts.
Smell can bring you back as well as anything, whether it be the cologne of a past lover, the sweet and slightly nauseating smell of a carnival, the cooking of a relative, etc.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. I was raised on the east coast and there was a distinctive harbor aroma where I lived. Occasionally, 20 years later, I'll catch a whiff of a similar aroma where I live now on the west coast and I'll go back in time to my youth.

Yeah, Similar. I smelled some bath and body works lotion the other day. I figured my sister was around so I hit the deck. BUT, shes 7 hours away. :\

certain scents evoke memories for me as well, some good, some bad. i was evacuated from a burning apartment building that was caused by an electrical fire in the middle of the night years ago, and that unique smoke-smell, if i catch a whiff of it today, will cause my heart to race and my palms to sweat. april fresh Downy reminds me of my mom, dove soap reminds me of my grandmother.

I do at times... if I go outside and if the grass is cut, i'm reminded of when I was 7 when my dad used to gut the grass... the smell just seems to define summer... it's frustrating at times.

I can feel I've been to a place in early childhood by the smell... Can you imagine? Like years ago...

everytime i smell a really nice chickeny smell it takes me back to this one time when i lived in devon and my mum cooked chicken curry in the ray burn ah it was so good, takes me back everytime. i think it's due to your sensory memory which filters into your sub conscious and is recalled when triggered, interesting and cool! did you used to sniff those pens intentionally?
