I grew up in a very liberal family but over the years and especially after going through higher education I started paying more attention to politics and government. That is when I became more conservative.

I actually voted for Carter when I was 18. LOL. I'm still a registered democrat but never voted for a democrat to be president since then.
Typical liberal response from Answerman.....wants the government to help him.

Well, isn't that special!
I grew up in a Republican household.
I worked hard (still do), pay taxes and for years, supported and voted Republican (although to be fair, never 100%).
As the years went by, I started to see the Republican party shift.
Now, all I see is a bloated giant that is taking away civil liberties, invading our most personal lives (i.e., Terri Schiavo), raising taxes, wrecking the economy, starting senseless wars and imposing Christian beliefs on those of other faiths.
Oh...should I dare mention the corruption?
Delay, Foley...just the tip of the iceberg.
What the hell happened?
I can't swing to the Democratic party...too freakin' far left for my tastes.
What this country needs is a damn good centrist party where people are encouraged to think for themselves, the government tends to the business, balances the budget and protects the borders.

When I was younger I would have described myself as a moderate and I am still more moderate on social issues than I am with respect to the economy, foreign policy, and big government. But, yes, overall my ideology has become more conservative over the years. Ironically, my parents lean to the left more now than I remember when I was younger.

I was actually a liberal when I was younger, but then I grew up.
A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged.
If you're not a liberal when you're young- you have no heart.
If you're not a conservative when you're old- you have no mind.

I was never really liberal but my lifestyle and some of my opinions were a lot more liberal until I started noticing where they lead.

it would be that those who have grown up and decided to move from lib to repub realized that being a lib and going through life minus any dignity is not what a normal person would aspire to.

I was--but then I started to mature and actually THINK about things. That's when my political leaning changed from left to right.
