I just read about this study in the latest Allure:

http://www.bath.ac.uk/news/articles/research/barbie161205.html

“The meaning of ‘Barbie’ went beyond an expressed antipathy; actual physical violence and torture towards the doll was repeatedly reported, quite gleefully, across age, school and gender.”

“The girls we spoke to see Barbie torture as a legitimate play activity, and see the torture as a ‘cool’ activity in contrast to other forms of play with the doll.

“The types of mutilation are varied and creative, and range from removing the hair to decapitation, burning, breaking and even microwaving.”

It made me laugh, because I certainly did it--branding with matches, scalping her, tattooing her with a ballpoint pen--and then my kid brother finished my five Barbies off. :-)

Opinions, stories, insights?

LOL I tortured mine, although I didn't nuke mine (we had no microwave, but if we had, I probably would have tried it, LOL). I cut my Barbies' hair shorter and shorter until eventually you could see scalp, painted on her "make up" and "tattoos" with a ballpoint pen and marker, popped her head off, bent her knees in the wrong direction, etc. LOL

No, but I used to torture a certain girl who was placed at the same sitter as I sometimes went to as a kid. I was always bringing it to her attention that I was looking under the skirt her Barbie or feeling under the skirt or feeling of the chest or wanting to put it together with Ken or have a bunch of my toy soldiers rub against her Barbie. I treated Barbie okay, just not that Barbie's owner.

I didn't do that to my barbies. I had so many and it was a way for me to escape into a magical fantasy land as a child. I cherished them. My brother actually played with me, usually playing ken. We'd go on adventures, my Barbie was a princess, my brothers was a knight or wizard, etc,...

My cousins tried to do the things to my barbies as mentioned above.

No but my first ever baby sitter ripped the head off one and stole my Mom's old barbie doll. Her's could've been worth 50 bucks by now. I'm still annoyed on my Mom's behaif.

Heh, not on purpose...but I did find out the hard way, that the kerosene heater is not a good way to dry Barbie's hair =)

No, not intentionally. But I made her a new dress and accidentally cut her feet off when I cut the bottom of the dress off. She never walked again! lol

I scalped mine, tattooed them and then made them have sex with each other.
