I can't believe you had to ask this question and can't believe I'm qualifying it with an answer, but as 'Hammond' can't yet answer for himself I feel I've got to.
Firstly, he suffered a severe brain injury which could normally take weeks to regain conciousness from, and as we know he came round after a few days. He was then considered well enough to be moved to another hospital closer to his home, but that doesn't mean he's well enough to hold a press conference or even think about issuing statements. If you'd listened to the news items about this you'd know that he could still take months to recover completely, so for God's sake, why put additional pressure on him with stupid, inane questions like yours? Leave him to recover properly - he doesn't owe you anything. If you watch Top Gear you watch it for the cars, not to see Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson et al and undoubtedly would continue to watch it if individual presenters were replaced.

Marketing. I love the Hamster and I'd better see Top Gear back on telly soon, even if the Beeb ditch it I'm sure another channel will snap it up. I think there won't be a statement from Richard until the new series is ready to air, and it will be on the first episode - not before. It will bring in millions more viewers to the show, who will then obviously be hooked, and show the Beeb they were right to keep it going! Or if it's on ITV by then, it will really rub Aunty's nose in it!

I would just like to wish him a speedy and full recovery, and let's all pray that his teeth don't go brown in hospital!

He's got a 'serious brain injury'!

Just because the poor bugger is improving doesn't mean he's up to giving a statement!

Let him recover and hopefully, if they don't ban top gear (they'd better not!) he will at least make some sort of appearance and get the p*ss ripped out of him by Clarkson and May for being a crap driver!

perhaps he's so quiet because his brush with death has shown him that acting like an idiot has consequences and he has reflected on how being puerile whilst driving doesn't replace driving ability at speed. I can't believe so much time has been wasted on this juvenile and his jeans and jacket wearing mates. Is it becasue he is the new housewives' favourite to replace des lynam? He seems to be an icon for middle aged men who can't admit they're getting older. I am extremely grateful that at least some good will come from this with all the money raised for the Air Ambulance. Hopefully Jeremy Clarkson will raise money in similar fashion for children in need by trying to break the world record for how many times a fat, permed jeans wearer can be run over by a tank.

Ever seen anyone after brain damage? Just because he's coherant doesn't mean he's well. It could be he can only speak out of one side of his mouth and the other side of his face has dropped. He may be slurring and only managing a couple of words a minute.

Or he may have signed an enormous deal with Hello! to do an exclusive interview in a few week's time...

Because he's had a major brain trauma, and i'm sure that he's a bit busy concentrating on getting himself better. Brain trauma's will take months to recover from, if at all. They've said that he's doing well because he's not on the critical list anymore.

He's severely brain damaged, and that would be too much like competition for Jeremy Clarkson.
