Impact are dot-matrix and daisy-wheel style printers that print using a ribbon of some sort that transfers ink through "impacts".

An inkjet, thermal, wax, laser/LED printer would be NON-impact as they work through spraying ink/toner and fusing it to the paper.

Impact Printers use a print head containing a number of metal pins which strike an inked ribbon placed between the print head and the paper.

Non Impact printers A type of printer that does not operate by striking a head against a ribbon. Examples of nonimpact printers include laser and ink-jet printers. The term nonimpact is important primarily in that it distinguishes quiet printers from noisy (impact) printers

An impact printer uses a method not unlike a typewriter to make the letters, it has a ribbon in it. A non impact printer sprays ink dots or burns the print on special paper.

Impact printers use tiny rods that are 'fired' against a ribbon, which then makes contact with the paper. This type of printer is either a dot matrix printer or a golf ball printer. On this latter type, the letters are mounted on a 'golf ball'-type head, which strikes the ribbon causing ink to be deposited on the paper. (There's also another type of impact printer called a thermal printer but these aren't used much in home settings. The pins are heated in this type of printer, which forms discolouration [discoloration, if you're one of my American cousins] on heat sensitive paper. They don't work with normal plain paper.) Non-impact printers would include inkjet (or bubblejet if you're talking of Canon's range of printers) or laser printers. With inkjet printers, ink is forced from a reservoir as a minute bubble of ink which gets deposited directly on the paper. With laser printers, ink is not used. A dry powder, called toner, is heated and 'pushed' directly onto the paper.

Dot Matrix printers are an example of impact printers. Banks use these printers to fill out checks.

Inkjets are non impact printers.

I think it depends on the model of the epson printer. As far as i know, most of the older model of printers are impact printers, like those printers with the annoying beeping noise while printing. Non-impact printers are ink jets and laser jet printers.

A printer is an output device that produces text and graphics on a physical medium such as paper or transparency film. The printed information is called the hard copy or a printout. The printout can be printed in portrait or in landscape orientation. Portrait is taller than it is wide, and landscape is wider than it is tall.

Many types of printers are needed today to meet the needs of various users. Home printers usually print less than one hundred pages each week; small business users might print over one hundred pages a day; and many large businesses print several thousand pages a day. Printers are either impact printers or nonimpact printers.

An impact printer forms characters and graphics on a piece of paper by striking a mechanism against an ink ribbon that physically contacts the paper. Impact printers are noisy, and they do not print very good quality work. The two most common types of impact printers are the dot-matrix printer and the line printer. A dot-matrix printer produces printed images when tiny wire pins on a print head mechanism strike an inked ribbon. A line printer is a high-speed impact printer that prints an entire line at a time. Line printers are capable of printing up to 3,000 lines per minute. They are often used by networked applications, such as manufacturing, distribution, and shipping.

Nonimpact printers form characters and graphics on a piece of paper without actually striking the paper. Some of these printers use heat and pressure to create images and some spray ink. Nonimpact printers are much quieter than impact printers because they do not strike the paper. Three types of nonimpact printers that are used most often are ink-jet printers, laser printers, and thermal printers. An ink-jet printer is a type of nonimpact printer that forms characters and graphics by spraying tiny drops of liquid ink onto a piece of paper. Ink-jet printers produce a good quality printout. They can print on many different types and weights of paper as well as envelopes, labels, index cards, business cards, transparencies, and even iron-on T-shirt transfers. Ink-jet printers have become the most popular type of color printer for use in the home, because they do not cost a lot and they produce a good quality printout. Ink-jet printers usually print from one to twelve pages per minute. A laser printer is a high-speed, high-quality nonimpact printer that can print text and graphics in very high quality resolutions. Laser printers are much faster than ink-jet printers, but they cost more. They are capable of printing up to forty pages per minute. A laser printer creates images using a laser beam and powdered ink called toner. They work in a way similar to a copy machine. Laser printers must have memory, because the have to store the entire page before they can print it. A thermal printer generates images by pushing electrically heated pins against heat-sensitive paper. Most thermal printers are inexpensive; but the print quality is low, and the images tend to fade over time. Adding machines are an example of a thermal printer.

the impact printers use the system as type machines ,or as how you mke copy of one hand write by carbon papers,at their structure they have 9 or 24 pins that will fire out of printer head just for moment ,to hit the ink ribbon then the affect of hitting will print on paper ,every time in most of them 8 pins will fire to write on paper ,they always can use sheet papers or even tractor (role papers),and because they hit the ribbon then if you put carbon paper between two paper the affect of fire also will print on other paper too ,then you can have copise of your print may be up to ten print in one time ,we call them matrix printer too ,because their head often has 2 column and 12 rows ,every row hs 2 pin ,it seems as matrix then.the none impact are as inkjets that inject ink on paper by spray it directly dot by dot on paper ,they have different kinds but most are color this days against matrix printers that most are black or monochrom.other none impact printers are faxes ,yes faxes ,we say to them thermal printers that by making hot they will print on their papers ,s you know the fax paper will destroy after getting some sunlight ,the other kind of none impact printers we can say laserjet printers ,they use the ion attribute of powder that has electrical sensitive ,the laser write on some role named dram ,the were that laser wrote will take the powder on it and then when the paper pass under dram then the powder will print on paper ,then heater will attach the powder on paper and it will fix it forever ,its cause that you feel some warm on laser printer parinted papers ,xerox also has same mechanism as laser printer
