Musical Youth

Originally, this song was "Pass The Kouchie," meaning a marijuana pipe. Because all the members were between 11 and 16 years old at the time, the group's manager suggested a lyic change, replacing "Kouchie" with "Dutchie." The name change also helped it get airplay on radio and MTV. A "Dutchie" is a Jamaican cooking pot. The first version of this came out earlier in 1982 by Reggae group The Mighty Diamonds. Called "Pass The Kouchie," it had a heavy, slow beat and got very little airplay.
