You can buy a curtain rod as cheaply or cheaper that you could make one. But if i were pushed to create one, I would probably go with PVC, it's waterproof.

I made one out of 1 1/4 inch galvanized pipe. Then I welded up my own brackets to hold it up, you can hang your whole weight from it. I live in a rural town and didn't want to go to town to buy one so I just used scraps I had laying around. The missus and I are older folks and somewhat handicapped, it is something to rely on when you get in and out of the tub. My holders for the ends are both bolted into the studs of the wall.

get a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe you will also need 2 90o elbows with ears for anchoring to wall. screw the elbows to the wall measure the distance in between them and cut your PVC to fit. ( remember that the PVC pipe will go into the elbows 1/2" on each end so add 1 " )
