I forgot to mention that he was in the Army for 23 years and is used to ordering people about.

Amusingly enough, I had this exact problem before only myself, a guy, was always being told by my girlfriend of the time how I was stupid and they knew more than me, etc.

Anyway, I think it's an ego thing. They want to feel like they're better, so they belittle others to make themselves seem like they're the top of the pack.

I've noticed that guys feel like they should be the smart one in the relationship so if they aren't it makes them feel insecure. In order to make up for their insecurity, they try to point out every time their girlfriend is wrong about something. This makes them feel like they are somehow smarter.

Another possibility is that he really does think you're dumb, and maybe he just doesn't care. It is actually a good situation for him because he gets to feel like he is smart.

You may want to try telling him how he makes you feel. If that doesn't work, you should probably break up with him. Whether you are dumb or not, you probably don't want to be with somebody who makes you feel that way.

They can always THINK..! Don't let him belittle you. Tell him to stop it, he can't THINK much of you saying things like that. Just for the record, my hubby DARE'NT say things like that to me cos I can belittle him in a wink.

He doesn't think you are thick it's just his testosterone running round his veins. I, unfortunately, am the same with my partner but is making me see the error of my ways by subtly digging me in the arm everytime my ego gets to large to fit in the room.

DITCH HIM!!! Why are you wiht someone that puts you down all the time??? tell him this is unacceptable and that he is being offensive. I guess he may not know that he is doing it, or that it upsets you so talk to him. But don't do it to yourself, you deserve better

it's completely untrue - you both have a relationship and you both matter. if you don't want to be treated like that don't try to change him. just get mad and leave
