Uggghhh... I have Comcast cable internet service and two desk top computers in my home. I was told by comcast to by a wireless router in order to get internet service on the upstairs computer. I bought a Linksys. I have it fully hooked up to the Modem cable ethernet box thingy that comcast gave me. My down stairs computer works just fine online.
However, on the upstairs computer I have tried everything. It can't read a signal? WTF?
Am I doing something wrong.......??? UUUUggghhh

Ok well. Are you runnin XP? also do you have a wireless nic card in your pc. You will have to buy one of the seperate. If you buy the pci card it should have an atennae on it. If you buy the usb jump drive version it will just be like a flash drive. I suggest the pci card if you have enough room. Also each wall or object in the way of the router will interfere and in effect greatly reduce the range of you network. Try to move the router or the ocmputer if you can. If you have Windows Xp, there is a wireless network setup wizard that you can go thru to setup the network. Its real easy. Just click start-control panel-network and internet connections-and then you should see it. Make sure you have your wireless pci card installed correctly.

The modem should be plugged into the wall, the linksys into the modem, and the computer into the linksys. Then you need to have a wireless card on the upstairs one, to see the downstairs router. Use the wireless network wizard, and it should come up. If you have a friend with a notebook PC, with a wireless card then it's a good way to test your connections. Good Luck

are you using a wireless laptop upstairs or a desktop and does the desktop have a wireless card in it. thats a start. it would have been easier to just buy a router and had someone run a wire between floors through a wall and you would not have to sacrafice any speed for wireless. but if your having any more problems you can just call comcast (but wait they wont help you cause you didnt buy the equitment from them) call or go to the linksys website they will help,,,

if your upstairs is more than 100 feet away from the router you might not be able to pick up the signal. this might be a dumb question but do you have a wireless adapter on the upstairs pc.
if you do have the adapter and it is a distance issue. you can always buy another wireless adapter for the downstairs pc and put the router and the modem in a nuetral location if you have a cable outlet in a nuetral location. good luck

Go to Comcast.com to see the set up. That could be your problem. I went to Version's because that is what I have and it showed my system and the Linksys. Through that, I got my internet to work. That and I had a little help from the people on this board. Whatever you do? Do not get angry. Calm down and read. That is the best thing to do.

There may be something interfering with the signal. If you have steel reinforced concrete floors upstairs, that would explain it. Or maybe just elecrical wiring between the floors. Try changing the position of the wireless router and trying it again.

Call the 1-800 phone number for Linksys. It should be listed somewhere on the box that our router came in. They will talk with you and help you install it properly. Good Luck! :)

The best thing to do is call Linksys. It seems it is their router that is not working, and you should be able to get a customer service person to help you over the phone.
