Because some suburban black kids come off like snobs looking down on them. Not to say that all suburban black kids are snobs ... but a lot of them are. The same goes for the middle to upper class white, hispanic and asian kids vs the not so well off kids of their respective ethnicities. People should be judged by who they are, not where they come from ... and that goes both ways.

I grew up in a middle class neighborhood on the fringes of the suburbs and the hood. I got along with kids from both areas because I didn't judge them by some preconceived notion as to what they were. On the flip side, there were also kids from both areas that I didn't like. Take a look in the mirror and really examine what kind vibe you put out there. It's not all about people being jealous of what you have, what you wear and whether or not you use slang.

If you are sincere, down to earth, give people a chance to get to know you, and you give yourself a chance to get to know them -- then you will get along fine. Nobody will ever be accepted by everybody, so just take it with a grain of salt if not everybody likes you.

And to Scudd-85 ... I know plenty of of urban youth that are articulate, educated, and well groomed. That statement alone helps me understand why certain urban youth didn't like you.

Some of the time it's jealousy, most of the time it's because you're an outsider, they don't know if you can be trusted. I remember growing up we'd go visit family in the bad part of town, and my mother always made me feel scared telling all these bad stories about those kinds of kids, so I always stayed in my aunts house right up under the adults. One visit I decided to go outside with my cousin and I got along good with the other kids. They accepted me because they knew my cousin was cool, but I know they wouldn't have had I went outside on my own. They thought we were rich because my mom and dad had their own individual cars, and because my parents were still together, and because we could come over and visit on Saturday's. They're parents had to work all the time to make ends meet. Everyday things that we take for granted people that are less fortunate are envious of. Don't sweat it they'll come around, if they don't then they're the ones missing out. I've got friends that own their own business, and I've got friends that are very well off "street pharmacists" you have to be you, just don't act like you're better than them. You have to know how to act around everyone.

We are all humans, but different areas, people tend to have various life styles. It has nothing to do with your skin color! It's just that you are in a different class or lifestyle. It doesn't make it right, but it's the way it is. Trailer park kids rarely get along with kids who are used to living in mansions.

Mostly it has to do with people not teaching their children manners and thinking they are better than others. Or the kids who live in a lower class, sometimes feel jealous and don't have as many opportunities other kids. And there are times that kids who live in lower class are picked on and looked down upon because of their situation.

But in the long run, we are all humans and we all have different life experiences. We need to learn to respect each other.

becuase u don't act, or think the same way they do.
they probably think you're an oreo (black exterior...creamy white inside) and i bet u act like a white boy/girl. That's ok becuase that where u grew up.

if you want black kids in the city to like u you will have to at least pretend to be a little like them. Pick up the slang, the clothes etc etc.

and most important of all, BE REAL. Black people can tell when you're FAKE really quick

It's really sad that today's youth still live in the fear of the unknown. Don't sweat it, it's not that the kids don't like you, they just don't understand you. You represent what black urban youths are taught to hate; educated, well groomed, articulate, etc. Just be yourself.

They are jealous that you have it better. Have you ever lived in the hood? Have you ever hung out in the hood? You probably wouldn't have alot in common.
