wireless routers are the same as regular routers but they can connect computer wirelessly as well as with wires. think of your cell phone. they work in much the same way. they also have the option for heightened security so no outsiders can get into your network. any more information you want?

A network device that combines a wireless access point (base station), a wired LAN switch and a router with connections to a cable or DSL service. Wireless routers provide a convenient way to connect a small number of wired and any number of wireless computers to the Internet.

They route your IP packets (network information, like internet or dat tranferring on the in house network).
Big difference with non-wireless is, they are really much more insecure.

Wireless pro:
1. You can surf on the internet whereever your laptop is in the house.
2. ...is there a second advantage? I don't know any!

Wireless contra:
1. So can hackers. (Surf via YOUR wireless router, that is.) You can get in trouble that way. It's hard to make a wireless network really secure. If you don't have a real good expert there with you: better forget about it, and use a wired router.
The default offered options are mostly (if not always) NOT enough to build a good secure wireless network.
2. Network speed is less then with wired routers. (For internet though, it's mostly sufficient.)
