Factors are all the numbers that can be multiplied together to get another number.
Ex) Factors of 12: 1,2,3,4,6,12
If Y is a multiple of P then that means that P has to be a factor of Y ( P x some number = Y). Also P is a factor of itself ( P x 1 = P). P is actually its own Largest factor.
Therefore P is the GCF of P and Y

Y wouold be the GCF if it is a multiple of P for example if your numbers are 3 and 9, 9 is a multiple of three and obviously of itself. I was going to say PY until you said that y is a multiple of p.
