Will a greenhouse stay warm enough and provide enough light to start seeds? I started annuals from seed for the first time this year and was successful starting them indoors. I'm thinking of getting a plastic hobby style greenhouse and trying that next year. It will give me more space but I'm not sure if it will stay warm enough or provide enough light for the seeds to germinate? If it helps, I'm in North Texas.

If your area gets cold in the winter, it will get cool inside a greenhouse in the winter. Since you just want a hobby type kind, getting a heater and/or fan is impractical but that is what they use in large greenhouses. In the spring after it has warmed, and during the summer the greenhouse is ideal to start seeds. I live in California and I have used a greenhouse to start seeds during the spring and summer; they did very well and there was plenty of light for them.

Hi Nuke. I too have been wanting to try my hand at starting seeds/growing plants in a greenhouse. I came across this book at Amazon.com and think it may help (Gardening in Your Greenhouse by Mark Freeman):

Good luck in your greenhouse!

I start my seed by nicking them and placing them in a moist paper towel. Then I fold the paper towel with the seed in side and place it in a sealed plastic baggy. Finally hang it in a window until you see it fit to olant it. if the towel starts mildewing change it
