Wow, fun search -- but I FOUND it!! Check the site below and it will tell you step-by-step how to make "leaf skeletons" with simple boiling water! Second site has another method -- scroll down the page until you get to "Leaf Skeleton". Good luck & have fun.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure you could gently tear away leaf matter from the bigger veins, but I'm not sure how you could save the small ones

Try drying and pressing the leaf and then cut away whats left using a razor.
