1 of my players has a bye this week and I need a good defensive player that I can pick up off of Free Agent list.

It depends upon the scoring system your league uses. Does it award points for tackles? If so, the most consistent options are linebackers- guys like Bart Scott from the Ravens, Greg Brackett from the Colts, or Lance Briggs from the Bears.

Defensive Lineman and defensive backs are more of a gamble- they might 2 sacks or an interception, but they can just as easily come up with zero points on the day. Chris Gamble, DeAngelo Hall and Antoine Winfield are decent choices at DB, but they might already be gone. Always give consideration to guys who also return punts or kickoffs- those are free points.
