ANOVA is "Analysis of Variance between Groups"

You could use this statistical test any time you wanted to test whether your hypothesis holds over several groups.

Example: You think that kids in classrooms with air conditioning score higher than kids with just fans. And then kids with fans will score higher than kids with just the window open. And they will score higher than kids with no air conditioning at all. You sample each groups test scores and take their average.

When you apply the ANOVA test you will be able to tell whether or not your original proposal (the one about higher test scores) is true or not. Similar tests could be done in politics or in your work place.
