Are you for or against? I am 100% for. My reasons - most of the meds we use today are tested on animals, those who are against this, do you not use any medication. Personally I think people who against animal testing should be denied medication tested on animals. There are some life saving things out there which with the help of animals have helped save the lives of thousands of people.
Cloning for Therapy - animals can be cloned for therapy - same argument. Stem cells can be grown to help, replace , heart cells, liver cells etc to help heal and eradicate disease. Do you think people who are against this should be denied the treatment?

I support animal testing because it is more humane to test things on animals rather then test them on humans first.

Many people will claim that I am wrong, so I will tell them that they should be willing to let the testing be done on them. After all if we are looking for a cure for AIDS then won't it be better to experiment on people first? Of course when we are trying a new drug, or trying to find the maximum dose for a drug, a few people will die, but they will save those animals.

If this doesn't make any sense to you then you understand what I am talking about. We have to start the testing somewhere. Frankly I would prefer that a rat is used to test the maximum or lethal dose of a drug then my neighbor.

Cures for polo, rubella and small pox couldn't have been developed without animal testing. I don't like it when the poor animals are hurt, and I think that animal testing should be done in a manner that causes the animal the least pain. But, this isn’t a reason to discontinue the testing. Unless you want to live in a world where many children die from childhood diseases and a lot of teenagers and adults have to live with the crippling effects of those diseases. I would rather have a few hundred rats suffer and die then to force my neighbor to have to spend the rest of his life unable to walk without his crutches. Call me selfish, but I tend to favor my own species and wish health for the human population.

There have to be limits on research. I think that the cloning process is not perfected enough to be used on humans yet; we need to do more experiments. When we perfect cloning then I am not sure that it should be done on humans. The ethical dilemmas need to be worked out first. Of course unlike common conception a clone isn't formed as an adult, and they don't have your memories, there isn't even a certainty that the clone will develop like the original. A clone is a child created by asexual reproduction. It is a baby and it develops over time as a person does. The baby's environment will have a lot to do with how the child develops and what it becomes.

Some people are small-minded, have a too narrow focus, or are just plain wrong. It doesn’t mean that when we make advances, despite these people, that we should force them to suffer for their errors. I am not a cruel person and I support the First Amendment; “I may not agree with what you say, but I will die for your right to say it.” I also support other viewpoints and have my own ideas. I may not agree when someone claims that the world is flat and the entire universe revolves around the Earth, in fact I would be so bold as to call those believes stupid. But, I will let the person speak; because to not give them that freedom would constrict my own freedoms. You can’t pick and chose which freedoms you are going to allow, you have to allow all the legal freedoms. Not just those that you lilke.

I would disagree with gobblygoo and szx, because if they attended any school in the civilized world then 90% of them would require childhood vaccinations.

munchie we had to start that testing somewhere, like to determine what dosage is fatal. The women who were given the drug were taking a chance on a new drug, they not have known it; which is the fault of the doctor who prescribed that medication. At some point animal testing is no longer valid and human trials have to be started. In this case the medication Thalidomide wasn’t tested entirly and some people had to suffer for it. However, there are other medications that can cause birth defects like; Ambien, Isotretinoin, Sos Kaps, and even some acne medication.

Frederic B have you considered that without medications like Insulin how many people would be dead, or without advanced medical procedures Steven Hawking would be a bed ridden unknown because he couldn’t communicate, and may not have even survived long enough to do his work.

dodds it does sound cruel and obscene to test cosmetics on animals, but for many generations the only conclusive test for pregnancy required the death of the rabbit. Even today that test is more accurate than the home pregnancy tests.

have you not read all the facts about animal testing, most tests are useless as the animals react completely different to how humans would when taking some medications, this is even the case in primate tests! this makes animal testing a very unreliable way to make meds safe, there are alternative ways (not involving animals) which are much better and safer. i don't take medication, i use alternative therapies as testing on animals is barbaric and cruel and i hope one day will be illegal!

I do not use medications and the ones GIVEN to me were done so without my approval ( unconscious in hospital) I believe there is a cure for all dis-eases but we humans have strayed so far from our source that we need chemicals to keep ourselves healthy.
I am against animal testing and those for it should volunteer to have new meds tested on them, lol.
I hate pills, I hate hospitals and I hate men pretencious enough to torture animals in search of more drugs.
The Pharmacutical industry is a trillion-dollar industry and seeing the price of meds, I do not believe they are for helping people but to line their pockets with cold hard cash before they die miserably.
The health industry has high-jacked the purpose of medicine, shame on them and those who have allowed it to happen globally.

i completlely disagree with u coz animals sumtimes dont have the same reaction to medications as animals. a good example of this is a few years ago scientist tested a drug that was a painkiller and apparently also eased the pain of morning sick on both unpregnant and pregnant animals and it tested safe. it was produced and sold to pregnant and nonpregant men and women, and nearly all pregnant women who took gave birth to children with short limbs and no arms/legs. so i am completely against animal testing its wrong and cruel, if the scientists wanna testthe drugs they should test em on their selves!!!!!

oh its a classic question and my answer is NO NO NO NO NO. humans always think that we're somehow more intelligent and are 'more advanced' than any other animals, and i dont agree because animals are your relatives. and yes i dont take medicines tested on animals, and i will deny my treatment if i knew that it has anything to do with cloning

Its controversial but I agree with you and always have.
People need to remember that there are thousands of people alive today that wouldnt be, if it werent for animal testing.
