December 31 1975.................Montreal Canadiens 3......Central Red Army 3. Even though the Flyers beat the CSKA a couple of weeks later, this game represented the change from the Broad Street Bullies to the Flying Frenchmen
An honourable mention goes to the 1987 Canada Cup final, especially game 3 and I believe in Miracles (February 23, 1980 - Lake Placid!)

I would say Lacrosse or Irish hurling, but now that I understand your question better, I would say the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Soviet Red Army team from New Years Eve, in either 1975 or 1976. Dryden vs Tretiak, Fetisov vs LaFleur, Robinson vs Krutov, Larionov and Maltsev all in their prime. Best game I've ever seen, ended in a 3-3 draw/tie.

I think it was the
Flyers vs. Ottawa game in March of 2004, when they set the record for the most penalty minutes in one game.
The game showed hockey at its best. Great playing, great goals, excellent goaltending, outstanding physical play and defending and most importantly...all-out brawls including the goalies!!
