No, I don't think that they expect a tip or anything like that, because they are used to not getting a tip. I don't think that they would mess with your mail either because he could seriously get into big trouble by doing so. It would be nice to put an x-mas card in the mailbox for him, just to be nice.

I'm married to a mailman... He doesn't expect a tip or anything from any of his deliveries on his route and he doesn't mess with their mail... Mail carriers are people though so it may very...
As government employees they get paid really decent money, so no tip is necassary. I guess it's a matter of your own personal choice.

Expect? No. Do they then f*** with your mail? Very unlikely. It's hard enough to get the job, so why would they want to lose it over someone proving that the mailman threw away a 5-cent piece of paper? Not worth it.

Yes, I think they'd like to get one. I always give one. And do they mess with our mail if they don't? I think it just depends on the mail man. I suppose you could get hired as a postman even if you are a person of unsavory character. But I think 95% of postmen would just continue to do their job, tip or no tip.

Mail carriers expect to deliver mail and that is all. I know my carrier personally so I always give Christmas gifts like candy. For thanksgiving I give them a gift certificate for Albertson's.
They do a great job and they leave importatnt mail that would otherwise be returned. Rain, sleet or snow..they deliver...
Also at work, when its ht outside I give them bottled water...

I don't see how they could. How many people eagerly wait by their mail boxes and meet their mailmen face to face?

Boxing day was created for that reason... they take the day off as a stat holiday... so I guess they shouldn't expect a tip if they don't show up for one!

I give my mailman money or gift certificate.
They don't expect it. They don't mess up your mail.
Can you imagine if they did that? It would be on the news.
I don't think there is a high percentage that give tips.

No, they do not expect it and most do not desire it. Our mail carrier leaves notes along her route that state "I am your mail carrier, not your friend. Please do not leave gifts of any kind as I am unable to accept them. Thank you."
That makes it pretty clear that they are not supposed to accept gifts from anyone who is on their route or otherwise related to their jobs.
