7 and 1/2 days. Every day it goes 1 foot so it would take 7 days to make it to the 7 ft. mark. on the 8th day, it would go three feet in the daytime, hence the seven and a HALF days.

He will reach the top at the end of the eighth day. The first 7 days, he goes the net of 1 foot up each day, so he is at 7 feet. On the 8th day, he will travel the final 3 feet.

That means that each day it goes up one foot, so you would think 10 days,

BUT...

On the 8th day, he'll have only three foot to go, and by day he goes up three feet, which would put him over the top.

So, if "day" means 1/2 a day, i.e. 12 hrs, then

7 days, 12 hrs
